Project Coordinator
Abraham Gutman is the project coordinator of the Policies for Action Housing Equity Hub at the Center for Public Health Research Center. In this role, Mr. Gutman explores the empirical literature on housing and law, is involved in designing qualitative research projects, writes and edits legal memos and issue briefs, and works with a network law professors. Mr. Gutman also provides quantitative support to the Policy Surveillance Program.
Mr. Gutman is originally from Tel Aviv, Israel. Before moving to the United States, Mr. Gutman worked as a medic, trainer, and volunteer coordinator for Israel’s emergency medical services. Following this line of work, Mr. Gutman worked in Haiti and Mongolia. In 2013, Mr. Gutman moved to New York City to study economics at Hunter College. He graduated salutatorian of the class of 2016 with both BA and MA degrees in economics, with minors in math and public policy. His MA thesis, titled “Stop and Frisk Redux: Analysis of Racial Bias in New York City” was presented at conferences such as APPAM and PAA. Mr. Gutman also writes on politics and social issues. His bylines include The Huffington Post, WHYY, The Christian Science Monitor, Inside Higher Ed, and other media outlets.
