Post Doctoral Fellow

Deirdre Dingman is a new scholar and mid-career public health practitioner. She received a BS in Social Work in 1993 and worked as a community child abuse and neglect investigator for seven years.  From 2000 to 2007 she was a member of an interdisciplinary team assisting the mentally ill with legal, medical and social issues. Deirdre received her master’s in Public Health in 2007 and became a Certified Tobacco Treatment Specialist with Gulfcoast South Area Health Education Center (GSAHEC). While at GSAHEC, Deirdre created a tobacco cessation program that is now in use among all of Florida’s Area Health Education Centers. Deirdre received a DrPH in 2013 and is interested in studying the outcomes of tobacco regulatory policy that restricts access, display, advertising, and exposure to tobacco and tobacco smoke constituents. Deirdre is also interested in public health laws that focus on changing dietary patterns associated with obesity, e.g., taxes on sugar sweetened beverages and nutrition labels on menus and packages. Deirdre joined PHLR as a post-doctoral fellow in October 2014 with the intention of gaining practical experience in the conduct of rigorous research specific to public health law. Her current projects include evaluation of tobacco free campuses and tobacco advertising restrictions.
